Pretty cool right? We get to see that obsessive passion is the only reliable predictor of addiction-like symptoms. Even cooler to me, is that self-control, harmonious passion, habits, and Facebook use DON'T reliably predict addiction-like symptoms, at least not directly.
So what?
To me, this means that (and future studies would need to explore this first before we can say with any certainty) we likely want to figure out if obsessive passion actually LEADS to addiction-like symptoms. If so, we'll want to intervene there before it is too late. A likely way to do this would be to increase self-control. In this study, those with more self-control were less likely to have an obsessive passion and more likely to have a harmonious passion (which didn't relate to addiction-like symptoms).
